Demanding route

Demanding route is a trail with difficult sections, where occasional use of the hands is required. Usually wire ropes and rungs are used for additional safety.

Pristovški Storžič / Storschitz (1759 m)

Pristovški Storžič is another wonderful viewpoint on the Austrian-Slovenian border. Since the removal of the physical border in 2004, the fact that both the peak and the trail are entirely on the Austrian side, presents no obstacles.

More
The trail is marked with typical Austrian markings (in the shape of the Austrian flag) and yellow directional signs.

The upper ridge is elongated and gently sloping, and at times very exposed. The same goes for the peak, where a mighty metal cross stands with an inscription from entirely different times. You'll be rewarded with a splendid view over Carinthia and the Upper Carniola, from Grintovec across the Karavanke mountain range all the way to the Julian Alps.

Trail: You can set off from the Lake Planšar (Planšarsko Lake) past the Church of St. Andrew, Šenk Homestead, and towards Štular, where a marked turnoff to the old path to Jezerski vrh border crossing awaits you on the main road. Follow the marked path to the border crossing at Jezerski vrh saddle. If you're short on time, you can drive to the border crossing and park on the Slovenian or Austrian side. For the ascent, we recommend the shorter and more demanding left path, which starts in the area of the forest road and continues over a rocky saddle to the northwest shady slope, where we ascend to the upper, using wire ropes. Follow the top of the ridge to the cross and the box (witha visitor's book and a stamp). Descend the same way, or you can use an easier and slightly longer circular path via Pasterk vrh saddle Peak and the Skalarjeva planina mountain pasture back to the border crossing and further into the valley in the direction of the ascent. Virnikov Grintovec (1654 m)

Virnikov Grintovec, together with Pristovški Storžič and Štegovnik, is the remainder of a coral ridge which was formed over 250 million years ago.

More
The name 'Virnikov' comes from the Virnik/Vernk homesteads, which, in the past, had their estates from one end of the mountain to the other.

ZGORNJE JEZERSKO - VIRNIKOV GRINTOVEC
Trail: From the centre of Jezersko set off past St. Oswald's (sv. Ožbolt) parish church and the rectory and take the marked path upwards to the Žmitek farm. Continue on the trail beneath Žmitkov špic to the small saddle and then onto a forest road. Follow the road to the marked turning and continue along the marked trail through the forest beneath Žarkove peči to the Žingerc saddle. From the meadow, where the path from Korte merges, ascend the last steep section then continue along the saddle, which offers wonderful views, to the summit. The pleasant path along the saddle, over grass and among larch trees, hides the vertical walls beneath, therefore, especially during times of snow cover, caution is necessary. Descend on the same path. (Source: Jezerska Mountain Path. Guide and diary. PD Jezersko, Jezersko, 2018)

ZGORNJE JEZERSKO - MURNOVO - VIRNIKOV GRINTOVEC

Route: From the centre of Jezersko, the path leads past the village centre to the Karničar farm via an asphalt road, past the church, and up the hill. On the top of the hill, you will see the Karničar farm on the right side and, on the left side, the old church of St. Oswald. The church, first mentioned in 811, is perched high above the valley and offers beautiful views of the mighty peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. From here, continue on a forest road, which then turns into a forest path, but only for a short time. The path then forks left onto a dirt road leading past Murnovo. Continue on the road for about 500 m, then turn right to a forest trail. Follow it to the marked junction and continue on the marked path through the forest below Žarkovi Peči to the Žingerc saddle. From the meadow, where the path joins the descent from Korte, ascend the final slope, then continue to the summit along the scenic ridge path. The pleasant path along the ridge through meadows and among larch trees hides steep walls below, so caution is especially needed when the path is covered in snow. Descend by the same route.

SPODNJE JEZERSKO - MURNOVO - VIRNIKOV GRINTOVEC
Route: From Spodnje Jezersko, head in the direction indicated by signs for the Spodnji Virnik farm along an asphalt road uphill, which then transitions into a dirt road. At the intersection, turn right and follow the dirt road past Murnovo. Continue on the road for about 500 m, then turn right onto a forest track. Follow it to the marked junction and continue on the marked path through the forest below Žarkovi Peči to the Žingerc saddle. From the meadow, where the path joins the descent from Korte, ascend the final slope, then continue to the summit along the scenic ridge path. Štegovnik (1692 m)

As the name suggests, Štegovnik/Stegovnik (the word 'stegovati' means to stretch or reach out) is an elongated ridge peak. It runs in parallel with the ridge of Košuta on the other side of the Tržiška Bistrica valley.

More
Its entire length offers wonderful views of that part of the Karavanke mountains as well as the Grintovci mountain chain to the east.

Trail: From the Kanonir guest house follow the road to the branch in Dol, then turn right (cars can be parked at the depot in front of the barrier) and continue along the road to the turning for the marked path to Štegovnik. The path ascends on forest logging trails to the Močnikovo sedlo saddle and then continues to the pass above Fevča. From the pass ascend on a steep path to the peak, where there is a box with a visitors' book and stamp. We recommend continuing along the ridge towards the south, from where the path descends through picturesque natural windows. From the saddle between Štegovnik and Mali Javornik descend on the marked path to the road and continue along the road back to the start.(Source: Jezerska Mountain Path. Guide and diary. Storžič (2132 m) and Kališče (1534 m)

From the northern side, the southern rampart of the municipality of Jezersko is shaped like a cone, which is why it was named Storžič (the word 'storž’ means cone).

More

During summer numerous herds of sheep graze on its slopes, however, its meadowed slopes are so steep that an ascent of this beautiful 2,000 metre-high peak can be classified as a serious mountain tour. From the summit, next to the wooden cross and with the assistance of an orientation table, you can identify all the near and distant surroundings – from Kranj and Ljubljana across Triglav and Grossglockner all the way to Obir and the neighbouring Grintovci mountain chain. The Planinski dom na Kališču mountain hut is also part of the Jezersko Mountain Trail and is just 10 minutes from the Bašeljsko sedlo saddle. The hut was built by the Kranj Alpine Association on the occasion of its 60th anniversary and was opened in August 1959

Trail: From the Kanonir guest house follow the road to the branch in Dol, then turn left into the Podstoržič valley. Cars can be parked at the start of the valley in front of the barrier at the depot. Continue along the road to the end of the Podstoržič valley, where there is a marked turning for Storžič. Ascend on the marked path through the forest to the Bašeljsko sedlo saddle. From here follow the waymarkers to the Dom na Kališču mountain hut, where you can take a well-earned rest, then return to the Bašeljsko sedlo saddle and ascend on the southeast ridge to the peak of Storžič. Descend on the path over Škarjev rob to the Javorniški preval pass, then turn right to return to the Podstoržič valley. The trail leads to the end of the road which leads back to the start at Kanonir. (Source: Jezerska Mountain Path. Guide and diary. PD Jezersko, Jezersko, 2018)

Češka koča hut on Spodnje Ravni (1543 m)

More
For over a century, on the precipice of Spodnje Ravni, the Češka koča mountain hut has been offering shelter to day-trippers, hikers, alpinists and skiers who, under the northern wall of Grintovec, are lured by the promise of a wonderful half-day trip in a magical mountainous environment, where, despite its relatively easy accessibility - reaching the hut still requires the use of wire ropes – they are tempted by the trails, peaks, walls, views, and the adventures to be had in the mountainous world above the hut. Češka koča is the most important starting point and main mountain post in the municipality of Jezersko. The hut was built by the Czech branch of the Slovenian Alpine Association, with the aid of the Municipality of Jezersko back in the year 1900. Since that time, the Češka koča hut has been giving greater prominence to mountaineering, as well as tourism, in Jezersko. The hut is managed by the local alpine association. The typical Czech farmhouse stands on the edge of an abyss on Spodnje Ravni, beneath the southern wall of Grintovec. It is the oldest mountain hut in Slovenia that has preserved both its original exterior and internal character. The hut is a starting point for alpine ascents and mountaineering tours, whilst in spring the snow-covered slopes of Spodnje and Zgornje Ravni provide enjoyment for ski touring enthusiasts beneath the walls of  Dolgi hrbet, Grintovec and Kočna.
Thanks to its unique character and fairytale mountain environment, Češka koča is an attractive destination in itself, to where many trails lead, each with its own charm and experiences.

TRAIL FROM THE CENTRE OF JEZERSKO
Trail: The longest and most varied trail leads from the centre of Jezersko. From the main road, follow the waymarked path over the bridge (the car park is to the left at the sports field) and along the tarmac road in the direction of Grintovec. At the top of the first rise in the road, turn left at the waymarker and at the Makekova bajta building turn left onto a forest trail that leads to the road beneath the Makekov marof farm. Continue past the farm and turn to the left on a forest trail. The first traces of volcanic rocks can be seen on the trail – millions of years ago the area from here to the Štularjeva planina mountain pasture was an active volcano. Continue on the forest trail past Studenec to Zajezerca, where children will be delighted by the Palčkova skala (Gnome’s rock). Continue on the trail to Kačji rob and on the slopes of the Štularjeva planina mountain pasture to a junction with the path from Ravenska kočna. Now follows the most beautiful, and somewhat more demanding, part of the trail, where wire ropes offer help for the climb over Štengce (steps) and Hudičev klanec (the Devil's slope). Over a small bridge and up a ladder the path leads to Mrzla dolina (Cold valley), from where it is just a few more enjoyable minutes to reach the hut.

TRAIL VIA ŠTULARJEVA PLANINA ( mountain pasture)
Trail: From the Planšar Lake (Planšarsko jezero) walk along the theme path to the car park in the Ravenska kočna valley. From the car park follow the waymarked path to the right towards the Štularjeva planina mountain pasture. The marked trail to the mountain pasture leads through an area of newly-built forest roads; the signposts point towards a path, but you can also choose to continue on the road, either way you will reach the Štularjeva planina mountain pasture. From the pasture continue along the path past the junction of the freight cableway to the junction of the path from the centre of Jezersko. From here onwards, the directions are as per the previous description above: now follows the most beautiful, and somewhat more demanding, part of the trail, where wire ropes offer help for the climb over Štengce and Hudičev klanec (the Devil's slope). PATH TROUGHT MALO ŽRELO
Trail: From the Planšar Lake (Planšarsko jezero) walk along the theme path to the car park in the Ravenska kočna valley. From the car park follow the waymarked path ahead along the road to the freight cableway. From the marked turn-off for the Slovenska pot, Žrelo and Malo žrelo, continue through the forest to an area of scree beneath the Češka koča mountain hut in the direction of Žrelo. Continue along the gravel at the end of Žrelo, past the turning for Slovenska pot, a few bends higher on the gravel a signpost points towards the Češka koča hut along the path through Malo žrelo. Now follows a climb up a steep area of scree, and in the final part of the trail before reaching the hut there is an exposed passage through Rdeča peč where fixed wire ropes provide assistance.(Source: Jezerska Mountain Path. Veliki vrh (1742 m)

Veliki vrh is the start of the longest rocky ridge in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps (the western ridge of Kočna), which is also reflected in its name – simply Veliki vrh (big peak), which is actually higher than Mali vrh (small peak).

More
Unlike its rocky neighbour, it does not have an individual name.

Trail:
From the Jezersko side it is entirely covered by forest, whilst on the Kokra side the forest is interspersed with small walls, in which there is a rock climbing area.
From the centre of Jezersko begin to ascend on the tarmac road, which, after a kilometre, becomes a gravel road. The road winds around the former ski piste and after approximately two kilometres leads to a marked turning to Veliki vrh. Turn left on the marked trail, which gently slopes up to the Mlinarjevo sedlo saddle, and onwards steeply up to Veliki vrh. Continue through the steep forest to the ridge and among scrub to the summit. (Source: Jezerska Mountain Path. Guide and diary. PD Jezersko, Jezersko, 2018)

Frischaufov dom na Okrešlju (1396 m)

The hut stands on the lower edge of the glacial basin of Okrešelj above the upper end of the Logarska dolina valley. It is named after Johannes Frischauf, a tireless advocate of the beauty of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps

More
The first mountain hut was built at this magnificent rocky amphitheatre as far back as 1876, however, it was destroyed by an avalanche, and the current hut, through decades of renovations and extensions, acquired its current form in 1991. Jezersko and Solčava are connected by centuries of co-operation, one of the fruits of which is the indigenous Jezersko-Solčava breed of sheep, whilst in the last two decades locals from Jezersko have been making pilgrimages to Okrešelj in memory of the mountain rescuers who died during a training exercise in 1997 when a helicopter accident occurred. A memorial plaque was placed on the descent from the Savinjsko saddle a few minutes from the hut.

Trail : From Kranjska hut on Ledine follow the path through scrub and over meadows, which are rich in botanic endemic species of flowers (nigritella lithopolitanica (Kamnik orchid), leucanthemum lithopolitanicum (Kamnik daisy), aconitium tauricum (monkshood), allium kermesinum (Crimson leek), etc.) to the Jezersko saddle. Cross the saddle and the border with Austria to the Savinjsko saddle and continue across an area of scree to Okrešelj and the Frischaufov dom hut. Return the same way back to the start. Kranjska koča on Ledine (1700 m)

The Kranjska koča mountain hut stands in a larch forest at the foot of the most southeastern glacier in the Alps, the Ledenik pod Skuto.

More
In bygone days sheep grazed on the level scree and high mountain meadows above the place where the hut now stands – locally known as Vadine. In the second half of the 20th century, in the summer months there was so much snow beneath the northern wall of Rinka and Skuta that the foot of the glacier was a favourite area for enthusiastic alpine skiers. In 1977 the Kranj Alpine Association erected the hut in order to provide facilities for alpine ski training. A hike to the mountain hut also makes a great standalone tour, is an excellent starting point for demanding rock climbing ascents of the southern walls of Rinka, Skuta, Trikot and Dolgi hrbet. It is also a starting point for tours on the secured paths to Baba, Rinka and Mrzla gora, or for crossing the Jezersko vrh and Savinjsko saddles to Okrešelj in the Logarska dolina valley.
