OVČARSKI BAL, THE OLDEST SLOVENIAN ETNOGRAPHIC EVENT
SUNDAY, AUGUST 11, AT 11 AM NEAR LAKE PLANŠAR
Restaurant »Gostišče ob Jezeru« and the Tourist Association of Jezersko organize the Sheep Ball, the oldest Slovenian ethnographic event, every second Sunday in August. This year, we are already celebrating the 64th anniversary of this unique event. The Sheep ball represents the culmination of the summer events. It displays a tradition of herding sheep in the valley, related activities and cuisine. You will be able to taste masunjek with soured milk(a dish made from sweet and sour cream and mixed with buckwheat flour) and žganci(buckwheat spoonbread) with sauerkraut were the typical shepherd's dishes. You should also try flancati (fried pastry), which is still served today at more festive events.
